Our Vision and Ethos

Our Vision and Ethos

I can, I can, I can

Our Vision:

Our pupils join us with their own interests, strengths and unique personal experiences. Our vision is for all children to become the very best version of themselves they can be as a result of their time at Sayes Court – academically and personally. We want all children to leave Sayes Court inspired and equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful at the next stage of their education and beyond. We aim to support all pupils to develop the confidence and resilience they need to take advantage of the opportunities in, and overcome the challenges of, a changing and ever more competitive world.

How we achieve this:

Our vision is brought to life by many different elements of our school:

  • our broad and balanced curriculum, where all subjects have equal importance
  • our approach of ‘high challenge, high support’ for all areas of school life
  • high-quality SEND provision
  • a relational approach
  • strong pastoral support
  • workshops, trips and extracurricular activities accessible for all pupils

We firmly believe in the power of education to ensure that all children, regardless of their background or ability, become the best they can be.

I can, I can, I can

Our motto comes from this quote, and shows our belief that with hard work and resilience, we can all achieve great things:

‘I’m never going to put boundaries on myself. I’m never going to say I can’t do it. I’m never going to say ‘maybe’. I’m never going to say, ‘I don’t think I can.’ I can and I will.’ Nadiya Hussian, Great British Bake Off Winner.

Our strengths:

Just like any other set of skills, the way we conduct ourselves and engage with others can be developed with use. That is why, rather than values, we teach our strengths, linking with our belief in a growth mindset. We have taken our strengths from Amazing People Schools, with the aim of helping our pupils develop ‘the whole amazing you!’.

We take one strength each half term and talk about them in assemblies. They are also part of our reward system, with house points being awarded for showing these strengths.

British Values

Our curriculum, assembly and ethos promote fundamental British values:

  • Tolerance
  • Respect
  • Rule of Law
  • Democracy
  • Individual Liberty

Whether this is through elections for key pupil positions within the school, exposure other cultures and beliefs or through our explicit learning in PSHE, our pupils explore these values and how they shape their lives.
