At our school, we believe that who young people become matters as much as what they learn. Positive character traits are not fixed qualities that children are simply born with; they can be explicitly taught, practiced, and developed over time. Our whole-school approach systematically equips pupils with essential human skills, emotional resilience, and a strong moral compass.

The 'Character Muscle' Philosophy

We view positive character traits as strengths that function just like a muscle—the more you exercise them, the stronger they become.

• Teachable & Growth-Oriented: We teach pupils that everyone can strengthen their character through deliberate effort, self-regulation, and positive choices.

• Strengths-Based Wellbeing & Behaviour: By actively 'exercising' their character strengths, children develop a growth mindset, improve their learning readiness, and learn to navigate academic and social challenges with confidence and composure.

Structured Focus via Amazing People Schools

To ensure a research-backed, consistent framework across all key stages, we partner with Amazing People Schools—an Association for Character Education (ACE) accredited platform:

• Half-Termly Themes: We focus on a different character strength every half term, explicitly teaching what that strength looks like in everyday action.

• Assemblies: Through whole-school assemblies, children regularly discuss, debate, and reflect on how they can demonstrate these core strengths in school and at home.

Diverse & Inclusive Role Models

To broaden horizons, raise aspirations, and support pupils' Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) development, we explore positive real-life stories of historical and contemporary figures who embody each focus strength:

• Reflecting Our Global Community: We deliberately celebrate diverse role models across a rich spectrum of ethnic backgrounds, genders, religions, cultures, and those living with disabilities.

• Belonging, Inclusion & Inspiration: By ensuring every child sees themselves reflected in extraordinary individuals who have made a lasting difference to the world, we cultivate a deep sense of belonging, mutual respect, and high ambition for all pupils.

Through this accredited, strengths-based framework, we empower our pupils to build the essential human skills, integrity, and self-belief needed to thrive in school and flourish in modern society.
